Mike Bax won the RICS Junior Auctioneering Competition in 1977. That sparked his appetite, and his first charity sale consisted of 500 lots in Northfleet in 1979 where his ability was proved. Well over 100 farm machinery sales have followed and he annually conducted three of Kent’s Chestnut Underwood auctions in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Throughout that time he has taken to the rostrum for freehold sales, most recently as consultant auctioneer for Ward & Partners collective sales at the Great Danes. All of that has aggregated millions of pounds worth of freehold disposals behind which he still conducts charity auctions for worthy causes on a regular basis.

Richard Thomas cut his teeth organising farm machinery dispersal sales on the Cambridgeshire Fens in the early 1980’s.  His firm also acted for the Sheriff of Northamptonshire arranging receivership sales in the Peterborough area.  Returning to Kent, he was “let loose” with a gavel at a farm machinery sale in Lamberhurst selling 20 lots of assorted farm tools under the guidance of Mike Bax.

Over the last 30 years Richard has arranged well over 100 farm machinery sales in all parts of Kent and Sussex and most notably, a dispersal sale in Norfolk.  In recent years Richard has handed over responsibility for the management of dead stock sales to Stuart Sillars but continues to sell in tandem with Stuart and Mike and also conducts auctions for charities and local good causes.

Stuart Sillars is a former livestock auctioneer in East Anglia and Kent and has been conducting farm machinery sales since 1981. He has also been involved with the sale of antique and household furniture, top fruit and general deadstock as well as surplus equipment for the Ministry of Defence.
