NewsWe were blessed with glorious weather for the annual BTF sponsored GWCT Clay Shoot, which this year was held at Frogs Hole Farm, Biddenden by kind permission of Bockingfield Farms.
25 teams entered and shot three one hundred bird flushes throughout the morning in the glorious Kent countryside. The traps were expertly managed by Phil Ham and his team from Country Pursuits, and after coffee and a bacon roll a barbeque lunch was provided by James Smith of Loddington Farms serving his renowned “Veni” burgers.
The winning team were “The Swampies” from Sheppey including John Burden, Darren Ollernshaw, Jamie Goodwin, and Steve Moss who dropped very few clays and shot an impressive 270 out 300.
Second were “Waynes Skips” who had won the event in previous years and Third, regular attendees “The Bodiam Shoot” who recorded their best placement ever.
Well over £10,000 was raised for the charity and Roger Draycott, the Education and Advisory Officer from GWCT gave an informative talk to rally the troops and set out the situation against the current political backdrop.
Mike Bax ended the day by conducting the auction with his usual skill and aplomb and a wide range of lots, from Fishing on the Hampshire Itchen and Kentish Stour to a Days Shooting in Rutland for 8 Guns, went under the hammer to raise much needed funds for the Charity.
After a most interesting farm walk on the Squaries Estate near Westerham and the Clay Shoot, the next fund raising event will be the Annual Kent Shoot Quiz Challenge which is confirmed for Friday 15th November at Marden Cricket Club. Teams of 4 are invited with further information available from our Kent Chairman Jack Sadler or Regional Organiser Fleur Fillingham.
