Medway Local Plan delay
A crucial meeting and vote on the draft Medway Local Plan, which was due to take place earlier this month, (October 2021) has been delayed, leaving confusion for land and property owners in the area.
The long-awaited Plan was hoped to be finalised this year, however Medway Council says it faces a number of challenges “including a government imposed quote for more than 27,000 new homes” as well as controversy around several large developments including Chatham Docks.
The Council are now going to complete the full evidence base for the draft plan and present all of these documents once finalised, which will then be voted on by councillors to decide if it should be published and put to public consultation.
Tom French at BTF Partnership comments: “The council’s plans are ambitious and do represent significant opportunities for land and property owners, especially on the Hoo Peninsular, however they are facing significant opposition and so to present an incomplete plan would be counter-productive at this stage.”
