Government announces plans to end BPS ‘Greening’ requirements for English Farmers
Defra has announced (27 July 2020) that the ‘Greening’ requirements will no longer apply for English Farmers as it moves towards its new Environmental Land Management Scheme (ELMS). As a result, BPS 2021 applicants in England will not need to comply with the crop diversification or Ecological Focus Area (EFA) requirements.
This is huge news for English Farmers and removing this red tape will make the 2021 application and cropping plans for this Autumn much more straightforward. It should also help with stewardship, both now given double funding issues and enabling farmers to have maximum ability to move towards ELMS with total flexibility.
