Weald of Kent Ploughing Match 2025 – Moatenden Farm, Headcorn

Heavy rain overnight and into the early morning didn’t dampen spirits for this popular rural event, sponsored by BTF.

Getting the trade and the farmers market on site is a challenge in the best of conditions, but the committee pulled together and by the time the public started to arrive everything was set up and ready to go.

Unfortunately, the cloudy conditions were too poor to allow the spitfire display to take place as part of the 85th Battle of Britain anniversary. The steam ploughing also had to be cancelled, but everything else ran on schedule, with local ploughman Ian Linch winning the Class 2 and Trevor Bennett, the conventional classes.

Whilst the wet weather will mean that the gate takings are lower than in other recent years, the Ploughing Match association still hopes to make some contributions to local charities.

Special mention goes to the committee who worked tirelessly throughout the day to ensure the smooth running of the event in challenging conditions and to South East 4×4 Response who helpfully and cheerfully were on hand to extract vehicles that got stuck.

The photographs below show BTF Managing Director Claire Houchin presenting cups to Trevor Bennett and Ian Linch.

Trevor won the Kent & Sussex Fuels trophy for reversible champion ploughman and Ian took home the John Geering Memorial trophy as conventional champion ploughman.
