Dog owner ordered to pay thousands in compensation after sheep attack

Dog owners are reminded of the importance of keeping their pets under control after a court awarded compensation to a sheep farmer totalling thousands of pounds.
The financial penalty was made after a Kent Police investigation into two linked incidents near Maidstone last year, which led to the death of livestock.

Giant stone artefacts found on rare Ice Age site in Kent

Researchers in Kent have unearthed some of the largest early prehistoric stone tools ever found in Britain.

Excavations revealed artefacts in deep Ice Age sediments preserved on a hillside above the Medway Valley.

UK’s livestock sector must speed up innovation to hit net zero, report says 

The UK’s livestock sector must accelerate innovation in order to deliver its net zero goals by 2050, according to a new report.

For the goal of a 64% reduction in carbon dioxide equivalent emissions, current technology and practices could only deliver a 24% reduction at high rates of uptake, the report warns.

Total income from farming in England up 13% last year

The total income from farming (TIFF) in England in 2022 was £5.7 billion, a 12.9% increase from 2021.

This is the highest TIFF in the past six years for England. The second-highest TIFF was in 2021 at £5 billion, and the lowest over the past six years was in 2018 at £3.2 billion.
